Take Care of yourself – Employers don’t care – By Alfred

I was recently diagnosed for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Damn, it hurts badly. My doctor, to avoid the release operation, has advised me to do the following.

a. Use Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000/7000 – This really helped me, reducedthe pain a bit
b. Use Logitech Trackman ball mouse – I bought this month ago and getting used to it
c. Buy those keyboard desk tray – Those which are detachable are expensive – Planning to buy it soon
d. Use Carpal Tunnel Wrist Band – even though you don’t have this problem – Having that in your hand helps to avoid this future.
e. Use Wrist pillow mouse pad

I thought to write to you guys because honestly my company does not care. I don’t think IT companies care about its employees wrt to issues like this and take prevention than asking employees to cure themselves when it happens. Because they would have that cheap free keyboard which comes along with the computer they buy.

One of the employees of the client (where I work) also was diagnosed for Carpal tunnel, the company got a consultation setup with an Carpal Tunnel specialist. And they changed his workstation to help him. I think half may be because they could feared that he would sue them for his pain.

But my company, though I told them about the problem and requested a week leave, they worry about the billing rate. J

I am just praying and hoping my pain goes away soon and I will avoid the release operation.

Take care guys.
Alfa.
